The story behind DevFloHQ

Built by a development professional who needed a better way to work.

DevFloHQ did not begin as a technology project. It began with the daily reality of nonprofit development and a personal mission to make our work easier, our systems stronger, and our results more meaningful.

Nick Rossi, founder of DevFloHQ

Meet Nick Rossi

Built from more than 15 years inside nonprofit work.

I am a nonprofit professional first. For more than 15 years, I have worked alongside mission-driven teams trying to create greater impact with limited time and resources. I currently serve as Director of Development for Variety Children's Charity of the Desert, where my work includes grants, donor relationships, reporting, monthly revenue, and the systems that hold it all together.

I began exploring AI because I saw an opportunity to return time to our organizations. Too many hours are lost to redundant practices, disconnected spreadsheets, repeated reporting, and reconstructing information we already have. Used responsibly, AI and better systems can reduce that burden and help small teams do more of the work that only people can do.

DevFloHQ grew from that belief. It is the development system I wanted in my own work: one place to connect the daily responsibilities, protect institutional knowledge, strengthen decisions, and make room for more time with donors, partners, families, and communities.

DevFloHQ is an extension of my nonprofit work, not a departure from it. My role at Variety remains central to who I am as a development professional. I am building DevFloHQ independently alongside that work, inspired to create practical tools for stronger organizations and better outcomes for those we serve.

I also know that no single platform will fit every nonprofit. Large CRM systems can be expensive and powerful while still asking small organizations to change their language and practices to fit the technology. My goal is different: help teams use DevFloHQ where it fits, and build focused custom systems when their programs or development work calls for something of their own.

DevFloHQ is an independent project created by Nick Rossi. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Variety Children's Charity of the Desert.

Better systems give good people more time to do the work their communities need.

That is the purpose behind DevFloHQ.

The DevFlo mindset

Start with the mission. Build the system around the people doing the work.

Technology should remove friction, preserve context, and make the next decision easier. It should not create another complicated system for a small team to maintain.

What I believe.

  • Small teams deserve systems built for their reality
  • People should keep judgment, relationships, and accountability
  • AI should solve a defined problem and operate within clear boundaries
  • Technology should work for people, not make people work for the technology
  • The time we recover should return to donors, families, and communities

An invitation

Let's create the systems we need for better outcomes.

If you are carrying development work across too many spreadsheets, trying to connect an executive vision to day-to-day fundraising, or simply looking for more time to meet with the people who make your mission possible, I would love to hear what your team needs.
